September Favorites: A Touch of French Elegance for Fall

5 min read

As September rolls around, I begin to crave a little more warmth, texture, and old-world charm in both my interiors and everyday rituals. This month’s favorites are a beautiful mix of French-inspired design, autumnal accents, and a few personal luxuries. I’m especially drawn to the Kingsley Verdant wallpaper mural from Lee Jofa, the elegant Versailles planters from Accents of France, and the brown and white Sea Flower Temple Jar lamp from Legend Accents—pieces that bring history, pattern, and collected sophistication into a room. The new antiques of the future. And with these classics, I’m inclined to add vintage pieces such as a vintage French poster like the H. Germain Champagne advertisement by artist Alain Gauthier or keep my to-do list on the fun Jotter King Gator note cards by Alexa Pulitzer, and lastly, what a better way to hold fruit or fall flowers in this amazing brown and white leaf bowl, also from Legend Accents for their playful yet timeless style.

From a dramatic forest mural to velvet pumpkins, vintage French advertising, a beautiful new paint color, and a Champagne cocktail with an autumnal twist, these are the design and lifestyle products I’m loving right now.

1. Kingsley Verdant Wallpaper Mural | Lee Jofa

Theatrical forest wallpaper murals seem to be the moody drama we all need in our life right now. These murals can completely transform a room, and the Kingsley Verdant Mural by Lee Jofa has exactly the kind of lush, collected character I love. Its layered botanical pattern feels reminiscent of an English or French country estate—dramatic enough to make a statement, but sophisticated enough to live with. I would use it in a powder room, bedroom, library, or intimate dining space where a little drama is not only needed, but welcome.

Designer tip: When using a statement mural, keep the furnishings quieter and let the walls be the star.

2. Versailles Planters | Accents of France

There’s something undeniably romantic about a pair of Versailles-inspired planters, and these from Accents of France instantly bring a sense of European garden elegance to an entry, terrace, or garden room. Even without an actual château, they give a home that wonderfully collected, bien chez soi feeling, and the classic brown and gold color combination sets the tone for a beautiful autumn holiday season.

Style them: With clipped topiaries, olive trees, or trailing greenery for an effortless French garden moment.

3. Sea Flower Temple Jar Lamp | Legend Accents

The Brown & White Sea Flower Temple Jar Lamp from Legend Accents is one of those pieces that proves traditional design never goes out of style. The organic brown-and-white palette makes it especially versatile for today's warmer interiors, while the classic temple-jar silhouette adds instant sophistication without being overly formal.

Style suggestion: I love pieces like this layered into a room with books, collected objects, natural woods, and beautiful fabrics. It’s the mix—not the match—that makes a room feel luxurious.

4. Vintage H. Germain Champagne Poster | Alain Gauthier

Vintage French advertising is one of my favorite ways to add personality to a room. These posters are a great way to add a pop of color and this vintage H. Germain Champagne poster from the 1980s by French artist Alain Gauthier is a particularly charming find. It has that wonderful combination of French glamour and playful nostalgia.

Location is everything: Hang it as a canvas in a bar area, butler's pantry, kitchen, or entertaining space—or frame it and let it become the unexpected piece of art in a more traditional room.

5. Jotter King Gator Notecards | Alexa Pulitzer

Beautiful stationery is a small luxury that never goes out of style. Alexa Pulitzer's Jotter King Gator notecards bring a dose of Southern polish to everything from a handwritten thank-you note to a quick personal message or even use these for added sophistication to your daily to-do.

6. Leaf Bowl | Legend Accents

Another favorite from Legend Accents, this brown-and-white Leaf Bowl is the perfect example of a decorative object that can work beautifully in a variety of settings. Use it on a coffee table filled with collected treasures, on a console as a catchall, or layered into a bookshelf or dining room vignette. The organic leaf motif feels particularly appropriate for September, when we're beginning to welcome nature's changing palette indoors.

7. Caviar Spoons for Skincare

This may be my favorite – and bougiest – little luxury of the month. Caviar spoons, traditionally designed for serving delicate foods, make surprisingly chic little tools for applying skincare creams and body products.

I use these daily and though it's a tiny detail, that's precisely the point. Why scoop your favorite cream out of a jar with your fingers when you can turn the ritual into something that feels like a visit to a five-star hotel spa?

Luxury isn't always about spending more. Sometimes it's simply about doing ordinary things beautifully.

8. Maison Blanche | Sherwin-Williams

September has me reaching for warmer neutrals, and Sherwin-Williams Maison Blanche is exactly the kind of creamy, sophisticated neutral I love for transitional spaces. It has warmth without feeling yellow and softness without becoming bland.

This color makes for a beautiful drench on everything from walls to trim, cabinetry, and is light enough to even use on the ceilings to envelop a room in it’s warm embrace.

Designer tip: Always sample your paint in the actual room. Natural light, artificial light, flooring, and surrounding furnishings can dramatically influence how a neutral reads.

9. Velvet Pumpkins | HotSkwash

I am a firm believer that seasonal decorating should feel collected rather than themed, and velvet pumpkins are one of my favorite ways to achieve that. The various sizes and beautiful textures from HotSkwash make them easy to incorporate into an elegant autumn vignette.

Quick tip: Try grouping several on a dining table, arranging them along a mantel, or mixing a few into a bookshelf or coffee table display. Choose sophisticated neutrals, earthy browns, muted greens, or jewel tones rather than traditional orange for a more elevated look.

10. Oak Leaf Autumn Wreath | Threshold for Target

A beautiful wreath is one of the easiest ways to transition your home into fall, and the Oak Leaf Autumn Wreath from Threshold for Target strikes just the right balance between seasonal and sophisticated. Hang it on your front door, over a mirror, above a mantel, or even on an interior door. I especially love the idea of using fall botanicals indoors where they can be appreciated all season long.

11. The Orange Spice 75

And finally, no September edit would be complete without a seasonal cocktail. I've taken the classic French 75 and given it my own fall-inspired twist: the Orange Spice 75.

Think bright citrus, Champagne, and warm autumn spices—a cocktail that feels equally appropriate for an elegant dinner party, an afternoon gathering, or simply enjoying the last bit of daylight on the terrace.

It's my favorite kind of entertaining: familiar, classic, and unexpected enough to make people ask, “What is that?”

September, in my opinion, is all about the art of the transition. We don't have to rush into fall or abandon the lightness of summer. Instead, we can layer in a little more texture, warmth, patina, and indulgence. These are the pieces and pleasures I'm reaching for right now—and the little luxuries that are making September feel especially beautiful.
